The Mammary Dialogues

Written and performed by Alison Blenkinsop and friends.

I put on this show to celebrate my retirement from breastfeeding support on my 60th birthday at The West End Centre in Aldershot, on Saturday 26th March 2011.

It featured a wealth of funny stories, songs and images about breastfeeding and childcare, and interviews with friends and family. Heather Higgins, breastfeeding supporter and doula, sang several solos and led the audience in community singing. Resources for breastfeeding supporters, including knitted breasts and the Happy Knappy, were sold during a break for home-made cupcakes, suggestively decorated. I also promoted the second edition of my book Fit to Bust – a comic treasure chest, published by Lonely Scribe, which contains many songs and information about the value and importance of breastfeeding. Fit to Bust is raising funds for Baby Milk Action. http://www.lonelyscribe.co.uk/booklist.cfm

The show was great fun with 75 in the audience, aged between 17 months and 95 years. Their donations, plus 10% of ticket sales, has resulted in a sum of £360 (half of it Gift Aided) for the Children’s Society’s campaigns OutCry! and End Child Poverty.
